He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. Proverbs 28:13 NKJV
As long as we continue to secretly switch the labels on sin to make it seem less serious, we are being dishonest with ourselves and with God and we remain unforgiven. Let’s call sin by its name without exaggerating and free ourselves of shame. Call it out by its name. If we say, “God it’s lying that I continue to do or its jealousy lingering in my heart. It’s lust lurking deep within my soul or revenge I am still seeking. It’s hate I continue to hold for others or I have committed adultery or unforgiveness that I still struggle with in my everyday life.” God promises, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1John 1:9)
Confess means to call sin by the same names that God does and to be in agreement with Him about recognizing, confessing and seeking forgiveness of your sins. I have learned that sin is sin and it doesn’t really matter the size, whether big or small, the duration of the sins being committed or how recently they were committed. It doesn’t matter the reasons behind our acts of sin, whether they were committed out of revenge, spontaneity or malice. God will forgive us if we just seek His forgiveness in our hearts and confess our sins!
However, we know that the enemy tries to keep us chained to the circumstances of the past and present to keep us from reaching our full potential. In order for us to move forward, we must be willing to confess our sins and give up yesterday and go on toward tomorrow with forgiveness. All you need to do is allow God’s power and anointing to touch the hurting places that need healing. He will take care of all of those dirty little secrets. God is in the healing business and He will restore you as you continue to call out to Him.
If you have been wondering how God will make things come to pass in your life, remember that He will accomplish the task. No man will get the credit for your deliverance. He will restore your faith. He will give life to your spirit. He will put purpose back into you. He will renew your heart, mind and spirit. Most importantly, He will restore you.
