DJ Cool V: The Man, The Music, The Message

For over three decades, heavyweight Hip Hop producer and mixologist, Cutmaster Cool V, has given his best, and brought unmatched talent and true work ethic to the music industry.

Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, with gifted hands and a love for music, he’s touched numerous gold and platinum records by an array of artists, including Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane, Kid Capri, Kool G Rap and Technotronic.

As a member of the Queens' Bridge based Juice Crew All-Stars, DJ Cool V began working side by side with Hip Hop groundbreaking radio personality, the late DJ Mr. Magic. He is one of three DJ's who were first to command the stage at the historical NAACP Awards. He also counts musical production credits on The Oprah Winfrey Show in his thorough repertoire of accomplishments. To add to this journey of success, on Thursday, February 18, 2016, the City of Elizabeth added an honorary street sign to recognize the Legendary DJ Cutmaster Cool V.

DJ Cool V has a life message beyond the music. Along with Hip Hop writer Lucio Dutch, Cool wrote the internationally acclaimed “The Symphony,” which is a memoir celebrating the people who took time to pour into his life. The legendary DJ believes, “there are individuals that come along and enhance who you are; I will not allow any of my inadequacies to dictate my recognition of them. “The Symphony” is a celebration of people that have positively affected me. When life is unbearable, recalling valuable memories stabilizes pain, giving you the power to keep pushing. This, I pray, is the reassurance my ‘Artifaction 18’ needs to know I truly acknowledge the importance of them in my life.”

Immediately on the heels of the success of “The Symphony,” comes “DJ Cool V Never Sleeps.” This is a stylish behind-the-scenes look at his most successful, co-produced Gold album, “The Diabolical Biz Markie Never Sleeps,” containing the Double-Platinum song, “Just A Friend” and Gold single, “Spring Again.” With writer Lucio Dutch, the Cool Elizabeth, New Jerseyan DJ gets personal with the first installment of his four-book album series. In “Never Sleeps,” Cool V discusses creative wins and struggles, industry naysayers, and he systematically breaks down studio sessions, song and beat construction, and digs emotionally deep, revealing a tragic loss.

The book, “DJ Cool V Never Sleeps” is an instant Golden Era Hip Hop collector’s item, and includes everything a fan would want to know about one of their favorite albums. It also comes with an exclusive surprise only available with the book.

“The Symphony” is still available exclusively at and “DJ Cool V Never Sleeps” will be released in Spring 2017.
