Broadway bound is where everyone needs to be before Saturday January 22nd. That’s the last performance date of the hottest play on Broadway, Katori Hall’s “The Mountaintop.” If you are a theater buff or a fan of great acting, you will not be disappointed.

“The Mountaintop” stars none other than Oscar nominees Samuel L. Jackson and Angela Bassett, two of Hollywood’s best! The Bernard Jacobs theater is transformed into room 306 of the Lorraine Motel where Jackson delivers a stellar performance as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. After delivering his most famous speech, Dr. King retires to his room to prepare for the next days’ activities. Here we see the loving father, husband and the humble yet tired leader of the movement who loves Pall Mall cigarettes. lol
As a storm rages outside a beautiful stranger, Camae (short for Carrie Mae) portrayed by Angela Bassett, knocks at the door with a cup of coffee and a few hidden squares (cigarettes). Bassett gives a “Tony” award winning performance as the awestruck, foul mouthed lovable maid on her first day of work. After a lot of flirting, smoking and a little drinking (yes, Dr. King drinks in this one…lol) we learn that a kiss is more than just a kiss.
“The Mountaintop” came to Broadway after a highly successful run in the London theater district in 2009 where it won several top awards. It’s quite simply Broadway at its best, compelling story telling coupled with excellent acting. You do not want to miss this one. I predict that this version with Jackson and Bassett will be turned into a movie. Opening night was back in October (on the 13th) and this is a limited engagement run. So get your tickets now, it will sell out fast.
Jackson and Bassett are performing in every show unless otherwise noted on the Telecharge schedule. Please call to confirm the holiday performances. Get excited about Broadway all over again.
